  1. Assure you are  transmitting data through Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS): Address Bar

HTTPS is a secured encrypted protocol. Also look for the yellow padlock icon for secure transmissions.

               Not so good: http://www.facebook.com/

 

3.     Always log out of your Facebook session.

4.     Monitor Active Sessions under the security settings.

 

Login Notification: Facebook will contact you when your account is accessed if you enable this service. Notification comes by email or text.

Situations this year:

  • Friend’s account is hacked and that friend sends a message to the student-athlete to entice him/her to perform some lewd act on Skype or other video domain.

  • Student-athletes hacked accounts.

  •  Imposter accounts.

 

Motives:

  • Blackmail: Gambling, distraction, money, etc.

  • Phishing: Get personal information.

  • Malware: Harm computers

  • Imposter accounts: Harassment/ Slander.
